Terms of Use

These terms apply to the VocaReader app for Android and iOS and its online services. This is a translation of the German terms; in case of discrepancies, the German version prevails.

1. Provider

VocaReader is provided by Tobias Jahn, Niederbottigenweg 91, 3018 Bern, Switzerland, vocaby.reader@gmail.com.

2. Use

VocaReader is free to use. You can use it without an account; with an account (Google or Apple sign-in), your flashcards and reading progress are synced between your devices. There is a daily limit for generated flashcards; without an account the limit is lower.

3. Your books

You import your own EPUB files. They stay on your device and are not uploaded or synced. Only import books you are allowed to use. To create a flashcard, the tapped word and its sentence are sent to my server (see the privacy policy).

4. Flashcards are generated automatically

Translations, hints and examples are generated by an AI service and may be wrong or incomplete. Please check important words yourself. You can edit or regenerate every card.

5. Availability

I develop VocaReader in my free time and try to keep it running reliably, but I cannot guarantee that the app or the servers are always available or free of errors. Features may change. The app keeps working offline; online features (flashcard generation, sync) may be temporarily unavailable.

6. Liability

Liability for slight negligence is excluded as far as the law permits. This does not apply to injury to life, body or health, or where liability is mandatory by law.

7. Account deletion

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Danger Zone) or at api.sync.vocareader.eduquent.com/home. Your synced data is then deleted.

8. Changes

I may change these terms when the app changes. Important changes are announced in the app.

9. Law

Swiss law applies. Mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence remain unaffected.
